Zack & Kim Hunter

The Mushroom Communities of Mexico
For seven years, Zachary and Kimberly Hunter of The Fungivore have explored Central and Southern Mexico, foraging, sharing meals, and exchanging knowledge with indigenous mushroom communities. In this talk, they highlight the fungi, food, traditions, and relationships that have shaped their journeyโ€”from mountain forests to local festivals. Experience a window into living mycological traditions rooted in community and generational knowledge. Q&A to follow.

Now in their seventh year of hosting mushroom adventures in Mexico, theyโ€™ve built deep partnerships with Zapotec, Mixtec, Pjiekakjoo, and Mazahua communities. Alongside indigenous guides, mycologists, chefs, and biologists, they exchange knowledge on foraging, identification, and traditional uses of mushrooms. Zachary brings 25 years of expertise in foraging, cooking, and mycology, while Kimberly shares cultural insight and the growing art of mushroom dyeing. Through The Fungivore and Traveling Traders Bazaar, their mission is simple: to help others see the world through new eyesโ€”and leave with new connections.
