The Symbiotic Future of Fashion
Explores how the fast fashion crisis is fueling pollution and waste, and how fungi may hold the key to a more regenerative and sustainable textile industry. From mycelium leather to planet-healing materials, discover how fungi can help us reimagine what we wear, how we make it, and how we can create harmony between innovation and the environment.
Mya Griesbaum is a Materials Science and Engineering researcher at Georgia Tech and founder of Mycorrhiza Fashion — pioneering fungi-powered materials that could transform the textile industry. Her research uses white rot fungi to break down plastic waste and grow a durable, biodegradable, leather-like material called Mycorrhiza. She’s presented her work at Climate Week NYC, Atlanta Tech Week, and earned First Place for Best Overall Idea to Prototype (I2P).
