The Secret Lives of Fungi: Unlocking the Stories in their DNA
Fungi are everywhere, but their most fascinating secrets are hidden in their DNA. In this talk, Caroline shares how scientists use genomics and computational tools to uncover how fungi and yeast evolve and interact with the world around them.ย
Caroline is a PhD candidate in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology whose research focuses on fungi and yeast genomics. She began her career in healthcare, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and working as an emergency room nurse before returning to academia to pursue a Master of Science in Chemistry, where she studied DNA structure. Now working on her PhD, Caroline combines molecular biology and computational approaches to explore fungal genomes. She enjoys sharing the fascinating science behind fungi and helping others see these organisms from new perspectives.
